Vodafone Group is a British company, one of the world's largest cellular operators. Headquarters - in Newbury, Berkshire.

Founded in 1984 under the name Racal Telecom ltd as a subsidiary of Racal Electronics' Plc, an electronics manufacturer, including military. The first call in the analog network was made on January 1, 1985. In 1991, Racal Telecom was separated from Racal Electronics and renamed the Vodafone Group. The name is short for VOice DAta FONE.

 

In July 1992, launched the first GSM-network Vodafone in the UK.

 

In the ranking of two thousand of the largest public companies in the world, Forbes Global 2000 Vodafone Group Plc took 40th place, including the first for profit, 94th by market capitalization, 120th by revenue and 139th by assets [5].

 

As of March 31, 2014, Vodafone provided mobile communications services to 434 million users (the world's second largest figure after China Mobile) in 30 countries. In another 50 countries, Vodafone is a partner in the network, over which it has no complete control (including a strategic partnership with the Russian operator Mobile TeleSystems). Two main areas of activity: Europe; Africa, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. The largest number of subscribers - in India (184 million in 2015), in another five countries the company has more than 10 million subscribers (Great Britain, Germany, Turkey, Spain and Italy). In the US market, Vodafone worked through Verizon Wireless, which had a minority stake (45%), but sold it in early 2014.
