The company produces mobile devices for all major mobile communication standards, including GSM, CDMA and UMTS. The company has several factories located in the Asian region. In 2012, for the sake of economy, production was closed at factories in Finland, Hungary, Romania, and Mexico.

The joint venture Nokia and Siemens, Nokia Siemens Networks, produces equipment, services and other solutions for the construction of telecommunications systems.

In the division of technical research Nokia Research Center, founded in 1986, employs about 500 researchers, engineers and scientists. Nokia Research Center is represented in seven countries of the world: Finland, China, India, Kenya, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain and the USA. In addition, in 2001 Nokia founded the Instituto Technology Research Institute Nokia de Tecnologia in Brazil. The company owns nine manufacturing plants in Finland, Brazil, Romania, China, Hungary, India, Mexico and South Korea.


The company is engaged in research and production in several countries; in December 2010, Nokia's research and development centers were located in 16 countries and had 36 thousand employees, that is 27% of the total number of employees of the company.
